Shipyard Availability Optimization System Availability Scheduling Technology Developed by On Time Systems

PROBLEM STATEMENT
Manpower scheduling of entire shipyards is currently primarily a manual process. Laborious techniques are used to explore what-if scenarios that attempt to smooth the total workforce on site at a shipyard. Using current methods, it is nearly impossible to achieve the goal of keeping total manpower relatively constant by finding optimal windows for upcoming availabilities.

TECHNOLOGY DESCRIPTION
On Time Systems (OTS) has developed a new approach to ship availability scheduling that addresses the shipbuilding industry's unique needs using our most recent optimization product, ARGOS Lite. While ARGOS minimizes shipyard costs at the level of individual activities, ARGOS Lite smooths a shipyard workforce at a higher level by finding optimal times at which availabilities should be scheduled. In the image above, each color represents an availability. The upper graph shows the projected workforce at the shipyard before ARGOS Lite has optimized the timing of availabilites. Note that the workforce over a three-year period ranges from about 2000 to about 7000 workers. The lower graph shows the projected shipyard workforce after ARGOS Lite has repositioned the availabilities to get a workforce graph that shows a relatively constant workforce of approximately 4000. This optimization is achieved without modifying the projected labor utilization of the individual availabilities being rescheduled.
