When a single resource is selected in the resource usage plots, a black line indicating the availability for that resource is shown (more information...). If the project is long and the availability of the resource fluctuates often (for example, they go down to zero every day during lunch) the black lines indicating the availability can merge together and look like a solid black bar. This can usually be fixed by selecting a different calendar for the usage plot. The plot will only show usage during times when work is allowed to occur on the selected calendar. Therefore, selecting a calendar that does not show fluctuations (for example, selecting a 5 day work week calendar will hide any zero availabilities that occur on weekends) will fix the problem (more information...).
