Why can't PSOP connect to the Primavera database?

There are several reasons this could happen. The most likely problem is a network issue. If Primavera P3e itself is also unable to connect to the database, then network connectivity between your computer and the database has been disrupted and you should talk to your system administrator.

If Primavera can connect to the database but PSOP cannot, this is probably because Primavera does not provide a way for external applications to learn the fully qualified host name of the P3e database. For example, if your database was hosted on a computer called database.mycompany.com, PSOP would only be able to learn that the host was called database; P3e does not provide to PSOP the mycompany.com part of the host name. This is only a problem if the domain for the database host is not in the DNS suffix search list.

To correct this issue you must add the domain for the database host to the DNS search list. Your system administrator may have configured your machine so that you do not have the privileges necessary to correct this issue. Assuming you do have sufficient privileges, the following steps should correct the problem:
  1. Open the Windows control panel.
  2. Open Network and Dial-up Connections.
  3. Find the icon representing the network connection that will be used to connect to the P3e database and right-click on it.
  4. Select properties from the drop-down menu.

  5. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) from the list of components and click Properties.

  6. Clicked the Advanced button on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) window.
  7. Select the DNS tab on the Advanced TCP/IP Settings window.

  8. Click the Append these DNS suffixes (in order) button.
  9. Click the Add button.
  10. Type the domain suffix for your database server in the box that appears and click Add. For example, if your P3e database is stored at database.mycompany.com put mycompany.com here.

  11. Click OK in the Advanced TCP/IP Settings dialog.
  12. Click OK in the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) window.
  13. Click OK in the Local Area Connection Properties window.
  14. Close the Network and Dial-up Connections window.
