Traffic Prediction and Routing
Billions
of dollars are wasted annually as motorists are forced to wait in
congested traffic. OTS is helping reduce this problem by using the
existing speed- and vehicle-sensing infrastructure to monitor, model,
and predict motor vehicle traffic patterns in urban areas. The
technology surrounding intelligent transportation systems is in a state
of dramatic change and growth, and On Time Systems has developed core
data analysis and modeling techniques to take advantage of future
directions in automotive telematics.
OTS traffic technology uses sophisticated traffic-modeling and search
techniques to predict future traffic conditions. These predictions can
be used to minimize time needed to travel between various points.

Historically,
the information used to display traffic flow has been gleaned from
various sources, including sensors embedded in road surfaces and
traffic accident reports. These data sources have proven unreliable and
ineffective at helping predict vehicle speeds and travel times. OTS has
developed technology that allows dynamic data sources to be used for
traffic modeling and prediction. These data sources are multi-purpose
and much less expensive to install and operate than traditional sources.
Using these new data sources, possibly in combination with the existing
installed base of traditional sensors, OTS’ predictions can be
used to route vehicles efficiently through existing and anticipated
traffic flows.
